Years 1977 - 1999                    Years 2010 -  


2000-2001

MHLA begins a focus on future directions for the association. The AGM held May 28, 2001 has the theme "Beginning the discussion...Future direction for MHLA". A discussion led by President Laurie Blanchard focuses on the strengths of the association, membership needs, what MHLA can do to meet members' needs. A strategic planning initiative will be undertaken.

 

2001-2002

MHLA continues its exploration of change within the association. On September 26, 2001, a facilitated revisioning workshop is held entitled "Focusing on the Future". Participants engage in discussion on what the association could be like in 3 years in terms of membership, leadership and activities.

 

In early 2002 a working group revises the MHLA constitution and includes in its changes a new name for the association: Manitoba Association of Health Information Providers (MAHIP). The revised constitution is passed by the membership.

 

A spring conference with sessions on DOCLINE and the Canadian Health Network is held May 13, 2002, followed by the AGM.

 

2002-2003

In the Fall, 2002, the Manitoba Consumer Health Information Working Group agrees to join MAHIP as members. A professional development session on "Electronic Reference" is held in June 2002, featuring the National Library of Medicine's experience with e-mail reference. A mini-conference is held March 17, 2003 featuring Susan Murray speaking on "Strategies for Effective Consumer Health Communication" and Pat Routledge on "Reclaiming Balance in Your Life Through Time Management".

 

2003-2004

Two networking/social evenings for members are held in 2003-2004. In November 2003, a dinner is followed by a presentation by Dr. Nichole Riese from Medecins sans Frontieres; in February 2004 a social gathering and dinner is held.

 

2004-2005

MAHIP sponsors "Finding Canadian Health Statistics in the 21st Century: a workshop for researchers, health professionals, students, and library professionals" with speaker Tom Flemming on November 18, 2004. In addition MAHIP sponsors two

workshops as part of the Manitoba Library Association Conference on May 4, 2005. Dr. Jacquelyn Burkell from the Faculty of Information and Media Studies at the University of Western Ontario presents on "Health Information Online: how can we do it better?" and Maureen Kennedy of Eclectic Communications speaks on the theme "Control the Speed of the Merry-Go-Round".

 

A dinner/speaker event is held on March 9 with a presentation on the Books with Wings project. Dr. Gordon from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Manitoba and Dr. Niazi from the Kabul Medical Institute present on the initiative to bring medical publications to Afghanistan.

 

2005-2006

 

 A journal club for MAHIP members is started. Members meet over a lunch to discuss a chosen article on a health library topic led by one member acting as discussion facilitator. Four sessions are held in 2005-2006 with 10-11 members at each.

MAHIP agrees to host the 2009 CHLA/ABSC conference in Winnipeg. Lisa Demczuk and Christine Shaw-Daigle will be the conference co-chairs.

 

At the AGM, a new scholarship fund is created to pay for a conference attendance or CE session for a MAHIP member who does not have professional development funds.

 

2006-2007

Work is begun by the executive on collecting and sorting through the accumulated records of the MHLA/MAHIP with the goal of depositing material with the Manitoba Archives. Three journal club meetings are held for members. A start is made on a MAHIP Executive Handbook to ease the transition from one executive to another.

 

A CHLA Chapter Initiatives Grant of $2500 is secured to present a workshop on April 20, 2007. Jerilyn Veldof leads a day-long session, "Creating the One-Shot Library Workshop Step-by-Step" for 19 attendees.

 

A Conference Planning Committee for the 2009 CHLA conference in Winnipeg is established and the conference venue, the Fort Garry Hotel, is chosen.

 

2007-2008 

Mahip blog is established at http://mahip.wordpress.com.

 

Nominated by MAHIP, Ada Ducas received the Margaret Ridley Charlton Award for lifetime achievement in health librarianship from CHLA/ABSC.

 

 

2008-2009

 

CHLA/ABSC 2009 Conference "The Sky's the Limit" was held at the Hotel Fort Garry in Winnipeg on May 30-June 3.

 

MAHIP Continuing Education Award is established with application form.  The purpose of the Continuing Education Award is to enhance access to professional development opportunities for MAHIP members.  In its inaugural year, the award was given to Daisy Santos to attend the continuing education session, Online Learning Programs, offered at the 2009 CHLA/ABSC conference.

 

2009-2010

 

The poster Honouring our Heritage: The Manitoba Association of Health Information Providers (MAHIP) Chapter History Project  was presented at the CHLA/ABSC Annual Conference in Kingston, ON. 

 

Two Journal Club meetings were held Feb 12, 2010 and May 13, 2010. 

 

The MAHIP program committee was re-established at the Spring AGM.
